KAKEN – What is ‘Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (KAKENHI) Database’?

Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (KAKENHI) Database consists of “KAKEN - Search Research Projects”, which allows you to search for research projects conducted by the Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, and “KAKEN - Search Researcher”, which is generated by integrating “KAKEN - Search Research Projects” and other databases and allows you to search for researcher information.

KAKEN - Search Research Projects

“KAKEN - Search Research Projects” is a database that archives the information on Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research projects granted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS). It includes: the initial information at the time of adoption (Adopted Projects); summaries of research products (Research-status Report, Annual Research Report, and Final Research Report Summary); Final Research Report; and Self-evaluation Report.

As Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research is widely granted across all the academic disciplines, this database allows you to search for the latest information on research conducted in Japan in all disciplines.

For details of Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research, please refer to the following websites:

MEXT’s website: 科学研究費助成事業-科研費- (Japanese)

JSPS’s website: Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research

* Note

Due to the differences in the record coverage and changes made to a project within a fiscal year (e.g. declined after a tentative offer) etc, a project does not necessarily have all of the three data sources (i.e. Adopted Project; Research-status / Annual Research Report; and Final Research Report Summary or Final Research Report).

KAKEN - Search Researcher

“KAKEN - Search Researcher” is generated by mechanically integrating the information of researchers and research products using Researcher Numbers and DOIs, etc. extracted primarily from “KAKEN - Search Research Projects” and partly from “Institutional Repositories DataBase (IRDB)” as well as “CiNii Articles”, “researchmap” and “JaLC DOI”.

Since incorrect information may be entered in the above databases, the information displayed as search results on “KAKEN - Search Researcher” may also contain errors.

In addition, the researcher page displayed in “KAKEN - Search Researcher” is generated based on the Researcher Number.
Therefore, the following conditions must be met in order to be searched.

  • The researcher has a KAKEN Researcher Number
  • The research project adopted under the Researcher Number is listed in “KAKEN - Search Research Projects”
