よくある質問 - 研究者をさがす

In ‘Search Research Projects’, you can search and view information organised in terms of each research project’s title, including information at the time of adoption and information on research products.
You can get the list of research projects as the search results.
On the other hand, in ‘Search Researcher’, you can search and view researchers’ information organised in terms of each researcher’s name, including the information on research projects, research products and co-researchers.
You can view the research projects in which the researcher has participated, relevant fields, keywords, co-researchers, and affiliation records.

The information on patent categories (including descriptions such as ‘Application’ and ‘Unexamined Application’) and patent numbers are sometimes registered separately on the database.
Therefore, if you enter descriptions on patent categories in ‘Patent (Industrial Property Rights) Number’ section, sometimes it does not return your intended search results.
In such cases, please delete the descriptions on patent categories and try the search again.

The system automatically creates ‘Researcher Details’ pages using ‘Researcher Number’ as a key and extracting the necessary information from research projects’ information on the KAKEN Database.
If your name is written in the Roman alphabet in the relevant research projects’ reports and so on, your name will also appear in the Roman alphabet on your details page.

The system uses ‘Researcher Number’ as a reference and automatically collects and integrates the researcher’s information from reports and other documents on the KAKEN Database.
If the ‘Researcher Number’ is incorrect, it may display the information of a wrong researcher.
For the purpose of information disclosure, in principle, the system displays the information as they appear on reports and so on; therefore, it includes the fluctuations of descriptions and spelling errors.
Please also refer to ‘About Errors in Field Data’.
If you have noticed anything, please contact us. We will amend the data regularly based on your requests, and try to maintain the accuracy of the data as much as we can.

From the KAKEN Database, the system extracts all affiliations, departments and job titles listed in application forms and reports of the research projects in which the researcher has participated, and integrates and displays them in ‘Affiliation’ on the ‘Researcher Details’ page.
For the fiscal years whose information on adopted projects is not registered on the KAKEN Database, the affiliation information will not be reflected in ‘Researcher Details’.

From the KAKEN Database, the system extracts all affiliations, departments and job titles listed in application forms and reports of the research projects in which the researcher has participated, and integrates and displays them in ‘Affiliation’ on the ‘Researcher Details’ page.
For the information currently published on KAKEN (i.e. data types and annual schedule for data update), please refer to ‘Service Information: About Data Types’ .
For updating the information on the research projects in which you have participated as a ‘Co-Investigator (Kenkyū-buntansha)’, please refer to ‘FAQ: About Errors in Filed Data: It seems that the information on Co-Investigators (Kenkyū-buntansha) is missing’.

From the research projects registered on the KAKEN Database, the system automatically extracts and integrates the research products of which the researcher is considered to be the author and so on, and displays them in ‘Research Products’ on the ‘Researcher Details’ page.

Depending on the author identification process, it does not necessarily extract all research products.
We are currently not extracting research products in such cases as below in which it is difficult to identify the author:

  • The research product involves multiple researchers with the same surname, and the surname is listed as the author and so on
  • Papers written in English whose researcher’s name does not appear in the Roman alphabet in reports and other documents on the KAKEN Database
We would appreciate your understanding.

Currently, the system automatically collects and integrates only the research products with DOIs from reports and other documents on the KAKEN Database.
If a DOI is missing or incorrect, the same research product may be displayed separately as a different entry.

‘Co-Researchers’ are the research project’s ‘Principal Investigator’, ‘Co-Investigator (Kenkyū-buntansha)’, ‘Co-Investigator (Renkei-kenkyūsha)’, and ‘Research Collaborator’, who are listed in ‘List of Research Projects’ on the researcher’s details page.

The ‘Number of Collaborated Products’ in a ‘Researcher Details’ page is created by an automated counting of co-authors and only when the corresponding ‘Researcher Number’ can be identified.
In such cases as below, authors can not be identified by an automated counting and thus may not be included in ‘Number of Collaborated Products’:

  • The research product involves multiple researchers with the same surname, and the surname is listed as the author and so on
  • Papers written in English whose researcher’s name does not appear in the Roman alphabet in reports and other documents on the KAKEN Database

We would appreciate your understanding.
