The Institutional Login is the system that allows authorization between an university and providers so the members of the university can use several provider services with single sign-on. The ID should be supplied by the university.
In Japan, "GakuNin" is the federation for universities (academic institutions) and providers.
It constructs a framework of the Shibboleth authentication.
GakuNin accept an entry from universities, please see [GakuNin] page for more details. From abroad, users of UK Federation also can use Institutional Login.

Institutional authentication:

Your Usage Application is required by the 20th of the last month you wish to start the service since a certain amount of time is required for registering new users on the system and for testing connections.

Please set "jao" of "Shibboleth authentication settings" from the Institutional Authentication application screen and apply for renewal. For details on renewal application, please refer to the renewal application procedure.

If the same IdP is used by multiple registered institutions, such as when institutional authentication is used for each university campus, other campuses should be used so that jao + jaou and o + ou do not overlap. Please coordinate with the other campuse.

If you would like to obtain usage statistics data before FY2021, please inform your Institution name and Administrator ID (ID starting with SLM, optional if unknown) to cir-auth-req@nii.ac.jp.

The manuals for applying for institutional authentication are as follows.

When you do any of the following, you will get the message "This application has already been received or has been revoked.".

  • The same person clicked the URL once clicked again.

  • You have received an email on the mailing list and another employee clicked on the URL and then clicked on it.
If this message appears, if there is a screen that is displayed normally, use that screen, and if not, perform the work to send the email again, such as "reissue passcode" and "restore registered contents".

If the "Resumption" of "Service use" is checked, the message "You have already updated your service usage." will be displayed. Please uncheck "Resumption" of "Service use" and apply for renewal.
